Albertus Magnus College Receives Tech Talent Accelerator Grant
/Albertus Magnus College has earned a $40,000 Tech Talent Accelerator (TTA) Grant from the New England Board of Higher Education (NEHBE). The TTA is a state-funded program to develop pathways from higher education into tech jobs in the state’s business and non-profit sectors.
Albertus is one of seven institutions selected in this year’s competition according to officials. As a result of this award, Albertus will partner with the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce to leverage the College’s academic offerings to meet the need for information technology professionals in the bio/pharma local industry.
Like much of Connecticut, the New Haven region has an increasing demand for individuals with skills and credentials in cybersecurity, game design, data analytics, mobile app development, and cloud computing - as well as software to analyze the significant amount of data being collected in the bioinformatics/pharma/medical research enterprise.
Albertus plans to address the objectives of the grant – to increase the supply of individuals with in-demand technology skills and credentials – through an Applied Date Science Certificate that can be paired with any major and/or degree; and experiential learning opportunities to provide real world situations for students to apply to their classroom knowledge.
Described as the most diverse Catholic college in New England, and having recently qualifying for Hispanic Serving Institution status, Albertus officials indicate the college will continue to work with underrepresented populations to increase access to these high-demand, technology related roles.
“Receiving this grant is clear recognition by educators and employers that Albertus graduates are workforce ready,” said William Aniskovich, JD, Dean of the Tagliatela School of Business and Leadership at Albertus Magnus College. “Through this grant, we will further address the in-demand skills, including programming language, data analysis, and workflow management within bio/pharma in Greater New Haven.”
“We are excited to partner with Albertus Magnus College to facilitate the recruitment of students to the Applied Data Science Certificate offered at Albertus Magnus College and supported by TTA grant funds,” said Garrett Sheehan, President & CEO of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce. “We are confident that the program's emphasis on cultivating problem-solving and data analysis skills will directly meet the needs of key employers and critical industries in the region who rely on data analytics.”
This is the latest in a series of grants that Albertus has earned recently. The College was awarded a $3.1 million grant from the State of Connecticut’s Community Investment Fund 2030(CIF) – the largest single grant in the College’s almost 100-year history. The funding will enable renovations and improvements to the Albertus Celentano Field athletic complex and the City of New Haven’s Ralph Walker Skating Rink, home to Albertus Falcons Men’s and Women’s NCAA DIII Ice Hockey teams.
Albertus Magnus is a 4-year, private, not-for-profit, liberal arts, coeducational, degree-granting College offering undergraduate and graduate programs. Students come from 30 U.S. states and territories and nearly 20 foreign countries, according to the college’s website.
